Decent smart phone, amazing price May 31, 2010 T. E. Goldbach (South Carolina) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this phone because I broke my previous one and still had 1 year left on contract with ATT. I wanted a smart phone that would not affect my contract with my carrier and that didn't require a third mortgage to buy. This phone fit the bill. The touch screen works well enough but the Windows Mobile operating system that it comes with just feels very unpolished compared to the iPhone. And you will definitely need the stylus that it comes with for the very finger unfriendly touch functions. It's convenient that the stylus stores invisibly on board the phone and is available at a simple thumbnail flick. The mechanism that holds the stylus in place works well, I have no trouble accessing it when needed and I have no fear of it falling out when stored. The battery cover on the other hand is constantly coming off. It engages in the same direction as the slider so you will often find yourself attempting to slide open the phone one handed and instead you will slide off the battery cover from underneath and will have to fumble to not drop the phone. Dropping it from a height of 2 ft or more onto carpet instantly pops off the cover and dumps the unsecured battery forcing a hard reboot. The 20 button manual keyboard is nice when you don't want to use the stylus to dial a number but I find myself not really wanting to use the slide feature for fear of the cover issue. The mini usb port that is used for both data connection and charging is hidden underneath a rubber flap which I was sure would eventually break off or refuse to seal back in place but it has worked surprisingly well. The phone is already antiquated technology with no wi-fi or accelerometers which are now common place on smartphones and realistically although they are not really important features for a phone you will miss them if you are used to having them. But if they are not $300 important the price of this phone more than makes up for the loss of those capabilities.
The best thing about Windows mobile is that you can very often find free software to fix any of the issues you might have with the software, or you can make your own if you have the capability. There is no central big brother controlled 'app store' to purchase from or to approve apps. The downside of this however is that it is not as easy to find the apps you want and you have to be savvy enough to locate them on your own, but there are plenty of "top 10 windows apps" type websites that will help you locate the common most used software with a simple BING search.
So in summary the price of the phone and the fact that it is unlocked and able to be used with just about any carrier is really it's biggest attribute, It functions well for my main purposes but more hardcore users will probably find it lacking. If you want an iPhone or a Droid and you can afford one then get it, they are superior products. On the other hand if you just want a functional smart phone and want to ease into touch screen without losing the capability of a hard keyboard. This phone wont set you back too much.
HCT Touch Dual Smartphone April 14, 2010 N. Olena This is my second smart phone, My first being the UTStar PCC6700. All in all I think that HTC did an outstanding job in the design and usability of this phone. There are several features and if you happen to order this phone i strongly recomend reading the users manual to find all of its nifty little features. You can find the users manual and the software updates at this link: [...]
Communicates seamlessly with bluetooth, Loud speaker phone.
Cons
switching between the cameras is at times tricky.
The stylus is small and at times is easy to loose or forget to replace.

This is my first smart phone and it is everything and more than I expected. Easy to use. Despite that it came with instructions and CD in Spanish, I managed to get it up and going with minimal assistance. I'd recommend this product to anyone that is looking for an easy to use smartphone. Kudos HTC!!
