Bold 9700July 29, 2010 B. Jonathan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Bold 9700 is a great product. It's more compact that the Bold 9000 that I used to own. I much prefer the touch-sensitive track pad compared to the trackball too. Besides those two main factors the functions and battery life are basically the same between the two.
The Keyboard button fell offJuly 24, 2010 Ferdinand I used it for 3 weeks, and the p button just fell off, I never drop the phone, no scratch at all.
If you google the web, it turns out lots of people have the same problem with bold 9700.
Open box and missing quick start manualJuly 24, 2010 sbmodi I bought the phone as a gift. The phone itself is ok. The new touch pad is nice. However, the phone I recieved had an opened box and it looked like the phone had been removed from the box previously. The quick start guide was missing. I had bought a new phone and had hoped that Amazon would send a NEW one. Shipping an open item when a new one is bought is not somthing I had expected from Amazon.
Worth the upgradeJuly 18, 2010 kolombiana(San Francisco, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've owned Blackberries for years, as soon as the Bold 9000 was on the market I purchased it and was satisfied since then. I thought about upgrading and heard that the 9700 was pretty much the same as the 9000 so was unsettled about the purchase. I am thrilled that I did it. The 9700 is noticeably smaller and lighter, yes with a smaller keyboard but that isn't a problem for my small fingers. Simple feature improvements with text, contacts, etc were very nice and appreciated but there wasn't anything spectacularly different. Well, the camera is definitely nicer, visual voicemail is fun, and the trackpad was much better than I expected (night and day compared to the trackball). Blackberry has its issues but it works for me as I do not know other smartphones that allow me to view/edit word documents. The USB and headset changed, needed to update that which is lame but not a big deal. I thought I wouldn't really notice the difference between the 9000 and 9700 but there is definitely an improvement and it feels more compact with all my work needs still met.
Wonderful Phone for a world travelerJuly 16, 2010 D. Nibarger(Kingston, JA) This phone is great for someone like me who needs to switch sim cards while traveling. It works everywhere and I get my email wherever I am. The screen is not too big, but not too small and vibrant. At first I didn't like the new trackball, but after a week of using it, it is so much better than the old trackball that would get stuck, and not point where you wanted.
The biggest drawback is setup. You have to get the blackberry service in some country first. The old blackberry's would let you just have internet and run everything from that. Now you have to get the BB internet service from a provider for the Gmail and other email accounts come up. This can be expensive, but the service is great when you have it.
All in all, I would recommend this to anyone who can use a smartphone to simplify their life. It never stops and needs a restart like windows machines, and offers better security than droid.
