Excelent windows mobile phone July 22, 2010 D. Nader 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had my omnia 2 for a week. It looks and behaves very well.
I've had smartphones from palm (treo 650), nokia(5800), hp (ipaq 910, sony ericcsson xperia x1 and before that, I had allways used PDAs with windows pocket pc.
The omnia 2 is the best one I've ever had. The touch screen works very well, multimedia files go without problem and the most important to me. PIM (agenda, contacts, tasks) have the easy and powerfull management that WM users are used to.
Setting up the internet was a little tricky, but that's because this unlocked international version phone was configured for singapur operators. A little google and then I found the answers. By the way, if you need to change your default country, you better do it before installing anything, or you'll loose your info.
Blutooth works great. It self configured to work with my motorola stereo headphones and the handsfree.
Cons. Little included documentation about seting up for a specified country and language. A little slippery to grip. Little accesories available.
Pros. Touch Screen size and response, applications installed, windows mobile 6.5 functions, fits in my shirt pocket, general behavor.
Great smartphone! June 12, 2010 Martin Miguel Romero (Buenos Aires, Argentina) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm a heavy business and personal smartphone user: mainly for emails and watch TV shows and movies on the phone. And this phone absolutely rocks in both areas.
* Video: Is the best device regarding video capabilities that I've ever had (HTC Dash, HTC Touch, HTC Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, and now Omnia).
Coming from the Touch Pro, I kinda miss the physical keyboard, but typing especially in landscape is acceptable (not like and actual keyboard, but is very good). The Samsung media player reproduces with EXCELLENT quality, however, myself being used to the advanced features in TCPMP, could be seen as a downgrade. Anyhow, I'd rather use the S. Media Player to gain with the tremendous video quality.
* Screen: And if we talk about quality, the screen in this phone is astonishing.
* Interface: Also like very much how Samsung redesigned the WinMo to be much touch-friendly. I've used the original Samsung today with the Widgets for a week or so. The interface is pretty good, but the available widgets are sometimes, or too big, or too rudimentary, so now I'm testing the SPB Mobile Shell (kinda reminds me the HTC Touch Flo most of the time) and I'm comfortable with it.
* Camera: as other reviewers pointed out, takes a second or 2 to load it. And let's face it, we're not buying a Canon EOS. But being a phone camera, with 5mp, is a great camera. The best feature is the panorama capability, works great and does the image stitching pretty fast and accurately. Amazed with this feature.
* TouchScreen: absolutely rocks! I know, is not the Iphone touch, but is the closest you can find. Very responsive.
* Overall: a great product, totally worth the money spent. Highly recommended!
Great phone! June 8, 2010 Fab (Uganda) I bought this phone in January after reading reviews on Amazon. I was a bit apprehensive especially considering the fact that the phone has no warranty. However, I am more than satisfied with the quality of the phone. The calibration is very good; very good speakers, and photo quality. It is like having a separate camera. I spend lots of time on the phone either playing games, listening to music or watching movies. The only down side with regards to movies is that it only seems to play movies in DiVX or XVid only.
Like the previous reviewer, my phone got a crack in the screen, but it has not affected its functionality. I took extra precautions by buying a protective cover for it so that I can use it for a longer period.
Very nice phone.

Review updated 7/27/2010:
I was looking for a nice Smartphone alternative to the iPhone or Nokia N97, and finally chose the Omnia II after watching the reviews in youtube. Of course it was rather risky to buy an international version with no warranty but I needed an unlocked phone. I thought what can go wrong?, well, a lot of things. After turning it on, I was indeed impressed by the large vivid AMOLED. I tried ActiveSync and the phone synced immediately with Outlook. Then I tried to setup a different language, forget it! you won't find that neither in the settings nor in the handbook (I got it in english and greek), ok, let's leave it in english, even with some weird translations (how do you like the months names "aprilie", "iunie", "iulie"?). Then I transferred some music files and during that procedure the speaker started making a very annoying noise, like a loud hiss, that only stopped when the phone went dark in energy saving mode, when I placed or received a call or when I turned it off, which I had to do before going nuts with that hissing noise.
A while later I tried again with no other choice than cover the speaker to lessen the noise, which started immediately after turnig the device on. I tried to setup WiFi, it recognized my wireless network but I couldn't get online. Ok, let's try FM radio... it seemed to work, the device found all available stations, with RDS, but I couldn't hear anything with the earphones. Tried to play some of the music files I transferred previously, no sound either, just that hiss...
Lots of widgets and applications but I can't use any of them. This is so disappointing, I felt scamed!!! I didn't know what to do with this piece of junk. For the moment I had to get back to my old and simple Sony Ericsson which is simpler, has a superb sound, never failed and cost me symbollically less than one dollar because I agreed to extend the contract with my provider.
I contacted amazon and they told me to sent the defective item back, even with no warranty and without the original packacking. Since I didn't want the the same item for exchange, I asked for a refund instead. That took a coupe of weeks but they refunded me even the international shipping costs. Amazon service is just great! but I think they shouldn't be selling this kind of electronic devices with lots of known of troubles, and I'm not the first to comment this. The other smart phone I ordered as a replacement is a Nokia N97 Mini, which cost about the same and I'm very happy with.
Best phone for me yet ! April 6, 2010 J. Higgins (Canada) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Pros: Battery life, colorful display, good quality camera pictures, GPS works great with Garmin software (for offline use) and ever more...
Cons: None yet... ;)
